Fall 2021 Schedules Announced

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The 2021 schedules for the six Mitchell College fall sports programs were released on Wednesday. A total of 66 contests, including 29 home dates, make up the slate.

With fall sports sidelined last season due to the pandemic, the men's and women's soccer teams have been waiting a long time to christen their new turf field. Both teams will finally get the chance thanks to a season-opening doubleheader on Wednesday, September 1. The women will host Albertus Magnus College, followed by the men against the University of Saint Joseph.

The men's soccer team will play a total of 17 matches in 2021, including eight on its home turf. Damian Houlden, entering his seventh season as head coach of the program, has put together a challenging non-conference schedule that includes match-ups with Eastern Connecticut State University, Wheaton College and Johnson & Wales University. Conference play begins on September 25 against Eastern Nazarene College, the first of six New England Collegiate Conference showdowns leading up to the NECC Championship (Nov. 3 & 7).

Head coach Marc Davis enters his third season looking to build on the sizable progress his women's soccer program made in 2019, when the Mariners won more games than the previous two years combined. Mitchell will play a total of 16 contests with nine on its home field, highlighted by a date against Eastern Connecticut State. The final three games of the regular season will set the stage for the NECC Championship (Nov. 3 & 6).

The volleyball team will play a 21-game schedule with eight home dates under first-year head coach Kelsey Goodman. The Mariners return the nucleus from a 2019 squad that posted a school record for wins (14) and advanced to the semifinals of the NECC Championship for the first time ever. Mitchell opens the season at Coast Guard Academy on September 1 and will host Albertus Magnus for the home opener on September 7. Four tri-matches and three NECC dates also dot the schedule, all in preparation for the NECC Championship (Nov. 5 & 7).

The men's and women's cross country teams open the season with their annual home meet at Stenger Farm Park on September 10. The Mariners will race in six meets in 2021 under head coach Michael Bashant, who took over the program in the spring.

The men's golf team will tee it up at six events this fall, including a pair of home dates at Shenecossett Golf Course. A pair of two-day tournaments highlight the schedule, including the MASCAC Championship on October 4-5. Head coach Todd Peretz and his squad will look to improve on last year's fourth-place finish, the best in program history.
