Mariners Earn NECC Baseball All-Conference Recognition, Boegler Named to First Team

ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Mitchell College sophomore outfielder, Clayton Boegler (Somerset, Mass.) was named to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Baseball All-Conference First Team for his efforts this season.  In eight conference games this season, Boegler batted .414 with 11 runs and 12 hits, including four doubles.  Andrew Langlais (Ledyard, Conn.) and Jeff Perillo (Newington, Conn.) were both named to the NECC All-Conference Honorable Mention team.  Junior first baseman Langlais batted .345 with 10 hits in 10 NECC contests, while sophomore shortstop Perillo hit .314 with 11 hits and nine RBI.

Elms College junior designated hitter Justin Jacobs (Springhill, Fla.), a business major,  was named the 2009 NECC Baseball Player of the Year. In conference play, Jacobs finished third in the NECC with a .469 batting average and a .719 slugging percentage. He played in all ten games with 15 hits, 13 RBI, eight runs, five doubles and one home run in NECC play.

Fellow Blazer and freshman pitcher Matt Wood (Feeding Hills, Mass.) nabbed the 2009 NECC Baseball Pitcher of the Year for his 4-2 record in conference play.  Wood, an accounting major, led all hurlers in the NECC with a 2.62 ERA for his 48.0 innings pitched. In conference play, he had one shutout and closed two games allowing only 28 runs -  only 14 earned- on 43 hits while fanning 55 batters and walking just 26 in conference play.

Becker College freshman outfielder Joe Corey (Billerica, Mass.) nabbed the 2009 NECC Baseball Rookie of the Year for his first season of collegiate play. Corey, a criminal justice major, played and started in all 10 conference games finishing with a .351 batting average. Corey had .541 slugging percentage with 13 hits, eight runs, six RBI,10 stolen bases, two doubles, one triple and one home run. Defensively, he was perfect in fielding with a 1.000 percentage, grabbing 15 put-outs.

Daniel Webster second year Head Coach J.P. Pyne  was named the 2009 NECC Baseball Coach of the Year. He led the Eagles  to a 7-24 overall record and a 4-6 mark in the NECC.

The Nighthawks of Newbury, led by head coach Gregory Sullivan, were honored as the 2009 NECC Team Sportsmanship Award recipients. The Nighthawks  finished the season 6-28 overall.

Voting for the All-NECC team and each of the major awards was conducted among all NECC Baseball coaches.

Joining Jacob and Woodon All-NECC First Team were Becker's senior (1B) Dan Briand (Northbridge, Mass.); Elms' sophomore (2B) Brendan Cordeiro (Berkley, Mass.); Elms' freshman (3B) Nicolino Iavicoli (Hampden, Mass.); Becker's sophomore Jairo Valdez(Lynn, Mass.); Daniel Webster's junior (OF) Rob Leary (Litchfield, N.H.); Mitchell's sophomore (OF) Clayton Boegler (Somerset, Mass.); Newbury's junior (OF)Billy Maddock (Marshfield, Mass.); Becker's sophomore (P) Errick Maddern (West Haven, Conn.); Daniel Webster's sophomore (C )Chris McKenzie (Burlington, Mass.); and Becker's senior (DH) Frank Vaccaro(Shrewsbury, Mass.).

Six players received honorable mention honors including Mitchell's junior (1B) Andrew Langlais (Ledyard, Conn.); Southern Vermont's sophomore (1B) Adam Northup(Richmond, R.I.); Daniel Webster's junior (2B)Joe Tamulonis (Woodstock, N.H.); Daniel Webster's freshman (3B)Peter Plansky (Litchfield, N.H.); Mitchell's sophomore (SS) Jeff Perillo (Newington, Conn.); and Newbury's freshman (C )Pat Curry (Hamstead, N.H.).
