Baseball's Santiago Earns Final ROW Honors


ATTLEBORO, Mass. – For the fourth time this season, Mitchell College freshman catcher Anthony Santiago was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of baseball, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

Santiago helped the Mariners (19-8-1 overall, 14-4 NECC) capture the conference's regular season title last week. He batted .391 (9-for-23) over five games and slugged .478 with a .440 on-base percentage. He finished with a career-high five hits in a win over Lesley University and had four more in a game against Southern Vermont College. For the week Santiago tallied seven runs, three RBI and two doubles.

Santiago started all 28 games during the regular season and batted .409 with 19 RBI and 45 runs scored. In 18 conference game he batted .408 with 14 RBI and 29 runs scored.

Mitchell is the top seed and will host the 2011 NECC Baseball Championship on May 6-8. The Mariners will play the first game of the double-elimination tournament against fourth-seeded Southern Vermont on Friday at 11 a.m.
