Baseball Loses Two Close Games at Daniel Webster

NASHUA, N.H. – Erick Bordeau's walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh scored Nate Marshall from first to give the Daniel Webster Collegge baseball team a 6-5 victory in game one, while Korey LeLievre went the distance with a three-hit, seven-inning shutout as the Eagles prevailed 2-0 in game two to earn a doubleheader sweep of Mitchell College in a pair of NECC match-ups Saturday at Harvey Woods Field.

DWC improved to 13-10 overall (8-4 NECC) as it won for the seventh straight time and 11th in its last 13 games. The Eagles also completed a three-game sweep of the Mariners (5-13, 4-5 NECC) following an 8-3 victory in New London, Conn. on Friday.

Bordeau's winner in the opener came with two outs and Marshall running, making a winner of Eagle reliever Rich Lizotte who came on in place of starter Aaron Agrelo. Agrelo took the no decision going 6.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out two.

Mitchell had rallied from a 5-3 deficit by plating two in the top of the seventh off Lizotte, keyed by two Eagle errors followed by back-to-back sacrifice flies from junior Will Charkowsky and freshman Rafael Garcia, who knocked in two runs.

DWC plated three in the first on a two-run single from Tyler Bonin and an RBI single from Aaron Richards, who would finish with three hits.

Mitchell followed with an unearned run in the top of the second, and LeLievre answered in the bottom of the frame with a run-scoring single to plate Lizotte for a 4-1 game.

A Charkowsky RBI double made it 4-2, and Charkowsky would later score on a Garcia single to cut it to one in the top of the third, but a Josh Chasse sac fly in the bottom of the inning gave DWC a 5-3 lead setting up Mitchell's late rally to tie it.

Mike Sturges took the loss (1-3 overall), going 6.2 innings and allowing two earned runs on 10 hits while walking and striking out two.

Elliot Kilgore added two singles for DWC. Junior Tyler Shultis had two hits with a double for Mitchell.

In the nightcap, LeLievre improved to 2-2 overall by striking out two and walking three. Mitchell put runners at first and second with two outs in the seventh, but LeLievre got Shultis on a comeback to the mound to preserve the win.

Bordeau again led DWC with two hits while freshman Evan Peck had a pair for the Mariners.

DWC struck again in the first as Darrik Marstaller singled, advanced on a balk and came home on a Kyle Brigham single to right-center.

LeLievre settled into a groove, retiring 10 straight from the third through sixth. The Eagles provided help in the sixth as Ryan Dupont reached on a fielder's choice, moved to second on a wild pitch, to third on a Bordeau infield single and scored on a Lizotte sac fly to center.

Sophomore Mike Grofsick took the loss (0-4 overall), allowing just one earned run on five hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out one and walked one.

Mitchell will next visit Elms College on Saturday, April 14 for a NECC doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
