Baseball Slugs to Pair of Wins at Lesley

SOMERVILLE, MA - Lesley University (7-22 overall, 3-10 NECC) lost to Mitchell College (7-16 overall, 6-8 NECC) 12-1 in Game 1 and 14-2 in Game 2 of Saturday's New England Collegiate Conference baseball doubleheader at Trum Field.

Lesley's Tyler Plourd went 2-for-3 with a run scored in Game 1 and 2-for-4 with a pair of singles in Game 2.

Mitchell freshman Nick Carlson homered as the second batter of the day, setting the tone for his monster opener in which the Mariners shortstop went 4-for-5 with three runs scored to lead his offense's 12-run attack.

Leading 4-1 in the sixth, Mitchell added four more thanks to four Lesley errors in the inning, with a Gavin LaLima single plating two as the Mariners extended the lead to 8-1. The visitors posted four more on six hits in the seventh, with LaLima driving in one on a groundout and Carlson doubling home a run, and the Mariners went on to win 12-1.

LaLima totaled two RBI while freshman Drew Doyle went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Senior Tommy Derosier drove in a pair as the No. 9 hitter in the win.

Freshman Justin Lemanski picked up the win with a complete game effort, allowing only five hits and striking out six. Lynx starter Greg Anglin went 6.0 innings and allowed six earned while striking out two.

In the nightcap, the Mariners put three runs on the board in the first and second and took a 10-1 lead after three. Carlson scored in each of the first two innings, and freshman Evan Peck singled and scored in both innings before a Derosier two-run double to right made it a 10-1 game.

Lesley's Andrew Colon singled and scored on a Robert Parson ground ball, but the Mariners tacked on three more runs in the sixth to go up 14-1. Lesley got one back in the seventh, as Parson singled, stole second and scored from third on a wild pitch, closing out Mitchell's 14-2 Game 2 victory.

Colon went 2-for-2 with a run, and Parson went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Mitchell starter Mike Sturges also went the distance, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out six for the win. Lynx lefty Ryan Genua allowed nine earned in his 5.2 innings pitched, and Noah Shaw fanned two in 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.

Mitchell will host Lesley for the series finale on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
