FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Mitchell College baseball team opened the 2013 season with a split against Kenyon College on Friday afternoon at the Gene Cusic Classic, winning the first game 2-1 before falling 9-1 in the second.

Mitchell returns to action on Saturday, March 9 with a nine inning affair against St. Lawrence University at the Gene Cusic Classic. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.

The Mariners received a strong pitching performance from freshman Tyler Shamas to start the season off on the right foot. Shamas pitched a complete game and allowed only one run on three hits in 7.0 innings. He struck out two and walked three and gave up only one extra-base hit on the day.
