Mitchell Pulls Away in NECC Opener vs. SVC


FT. MYERS, Fla. – A three-run fifth inning put Mitchell College in front for good in a 10-4 win over Southern Vermont College in Friday's New England Collegiate Conference baseball showdown at Terry Park.

Trailing 2-1 in the fifth, the Mariners tied the game when junior Evan Peck delivered a RBI single down the left field line. Sophomore Neftali Arroyo then followed with a two-run, two-out homer to left field to put Mitchell on top.

Senior Mike Tandy benefitted from the run support, lasting 6.1 innings en route to his first win of the season. He struck out three and walked one while yielding four runs on seven hits. Freshman Axel De Jesus tossed 2.2 innings of hitless relief to pick up the save.

Arroyo also had a double in the game and finished with a team-high four RBI. Senior Kenneth Olszewski went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored.

Mitchell tacked on additional runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to blow the game open. Senior Marc Dorsi drove in a run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly, junior Gavin LaLima added a RBI single in the eighth, and Arroyo doubled home a run in the eighth.

Mitchell (4-3-1 overall, 1-0 NECC) will wrap up the series with Southern Vermont (2-2 overall, 0-1 NECC) with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 15 beginning at 10 a.m.
