Baseball Falls to Otterbein in Season Opener

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Mitchell College baseball team opened the 2018 season with a 12-0 loss to Otterbein University on Thursday evening at the Snowbird Classic.

The Cardinals stifled the Mitchell offense as four pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter. Otterbein starter Craig Prince fanned eight batters and walked three over the first 6.0 innings. Ethan Doty, Jake Walters and Chris Sparks allowed only one baserunner over the final 3.0 innings and combined for three strikeouts.

Otterbein jumped all over the Mariners early, scoring seven runs in the first inning against Mitchell starter Eddie Santiago. He allowed seven runs (five earned) on five hits and walked four in 0.2 innings of work.

Mitchell (0-1 overall) will get a chance at redemption when it faces Otterbein in another nine-inning contest on Friday, March 2 at 3:30 p.m.
