Baseball Picks Up First Win Against Otterbein

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Mitchell College baseball team bounced back for a 3-2 victory over Otterbein College on Friday afternoon at the Snowbird Classic.

After being no-hit by the Cardinals just a day earlier, the Mariners made the most of five hits and got a stellar performance from Bryton Ferris on the bump. He tossed a nine-inning complete game and yielded two runs on nine hits and struck out five while walking one.

Mitchell jumped on top 2-0 in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI singles from Peter Abate and Eric Marriott. Otterbein then knotted the game with a pair of runs in the top of the third.

The score remained 2-2 until a sacrifice fly by Jack Finnegan scored James Rangel with the go-ahead run in the fifth. Ferris then took the Mariners home, surrendering only three hits over the final four frames. He didn't allow a runner past second base, and in the ninth he secured the final out with the tying run in scoring position.

Mitchell (1-1 overall) will next play a doubleheader against Illinois College on Sunday, March 4 at 9 a.m.
