Baseball's Griffin Named NECC Player of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Garet Griffin was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of baseball, as announced by the league on Monday morning.

Griffin batted a team-high .571 with three triples, six RBI and eight runs scored over five games last week, all in non-conference action. He hit safely in all five games and slugged .857 for the week. He went 5-for-6 with a triple, three RBI and five runs scored in a win at Nichols College. He followed that with a 4-for-6 effort with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored in a win at Western New England University.

Griffin earns NECC player of the week honors for the first time this season and fifth time in his career. He is the third Mitchell player to earn the distinction this season, joining Kyle Hartenstein and Steven Pagan.

Griffin has started and played in all 28 games this season and is batting a team-high .418. He currently leads the NECC in total hits (46), RBI (38), triples (5) and steals (19) and ranks third in runs scored (35).

Mitchell (21-7 overall, 9-2 NECC) will next play a doubleheader at Lesley University on Tuesday, April 24 at 12:30 p.m.
