Baseball's DelaCruz nabs NECC ROW Honors

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Dougie DelaCruz was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of baseball, as announced by the league Monday morning.

DelaCruz batted a team-high .556 over the first three games of the season to lead the Mariners to a 2-1 start. In his first collegiate at bat he blasted a two-run homer off a preseason All-American in a win over UMass Dartmouth, one of two hits in the game for the newcomer. He also had two hits against Heidelberg--one of which was a double--and he recorded a hit and scored twice in a win over Otterbein. DelaCruz also led the team in on-base percentage (.714) and slugging (1.000) for the week.

Mitchell (2-3 overall) will next play Penn State University Abington on Wednesday, March 6 at 3:45 p.m.
