Baseball Earns Pair of NECC Honors

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – A pair of Mitchell College baseball players were recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday morning.

Junior Jakari Pellegrini was named NECC Pitcher of the Week while freshman Dougie DelaCruz was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. The duo led the Mariners to a doubleheader sweep of John Jay College last week.

Pellegrini picked up his second win of the season in the opening game of the doubleheader. He allowed two runs on one hit over 6.0 innings of work and struck out eight batters. He didn't allow a hit after the first inning and retired nine straight batters before exiting the game.

DelaCruz, who earned rookie honors for the second time this season (March 4), batted .571 with a homer and five RBI in the doubleheader. He went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the opener and also scored a pair of runs. His lone hit in the nightcap was a two-run blast, his second long ball of the season.

Mitchell (6-5 overall) will next host Coast Guard Academy on Tuesday, March 19 at 3:30 p.m.
