Baseball Duo Honored by NECC

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – A pair of Mitchell College baseball players were recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday morning.

Senior Eric Marriott was named NECC Player of the Week for the first time in his career while freshman Ryan Solimine was a repeat selection as NECC Rookie of the Week. The duo led Mitchell to a 4-0 record last week that included doubleheader sweeps of Albertus Magnus College and Newbury College.

Marriott batted .692 with four RBI and nine runs scored over the four games. In Mitchell's first NECC series of the season against Newbury he went 7-for-8 with a double, two RBI, six runs scored and three stolen bases. Earlier in the week he reached base safely in all five plate appearances in the opener against Albertus Magnus and finished with two hits, two RBI and three runs scored in the doubleheader. He slugged .923 for the week and had an on-base percentage of .765.

Solimine notched his first career shutout against Albertus Magnus, allowing only three hits over 5.0 innings while striking out six without issuing a walk. He faced only two batters over the minimum and didn't allow a runner past first base the entire game.

Marriott has started all 18 games this season and is batting .417 with four doubles, a triple and four home runs. He leads the team in runs (28), walks (16) and steals (10) and ranks third in RBI (17). Solimine has made four starts from the mound and has posted a 3-1 record with a 3.04 ERA. Over 23.2 innings of action he has struck out 26 batters while yielding just two walks.

Mitchell (13-5 overall) is riding a nine-game winning streak and will next play at UMass Boston on Wednesday, April 3 at 7:15 p.m.
