Baseball's Solimine Enjoying All-Star Season in PGCBL

Following a stellar first season with the Mitchell College baseball team, starting pitcher Ryan Solimine is continuing his success in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League this summer.

Solimine, playing for the Adirondack TrailBlazers, has put up impressive numbers through the first half of the PGCBL season. In six appearances he has posted a 4-1 record with a 2.81 ERA and 27 strikeouts over 41.2 innings. He leads the league in wins and complete games (3) and ranks second in innings pitched and third in ERA. He has also twice been honored as the PGCBL Pitcher of the Night (June 19, 24).

Solimine was recently named to the PGCBL All-Star Game, one of only four NCAA Division III players to earn the honor. As a reserve for the West roster he tossed 0.2 innings of relief in the game, which finished in a 5-5 tie on July 16.

The PGCBL is a 12-team summer collegiate baseball league in Upstate New York. Since its inaugural season in 2011, the PGCBL – which annually draws talent from some of the best NCAA, NAIA, and junior college programs – has quickly evolved into the premier wooden-bat league in the state of New York, while becoming one of the most widely respected summer leagues in the country. 

In his debut season with the Mariners, Solimine posted a 9-2 record in 11 starts while striking out a team-high 70 batters over 71.0 innings. The New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Year and all-conference first team pick led the league in wins and innings pitched and ranked second in strikeouts and ERA (2.28). He also became the fifth Mitchell pitcher to earn ABCA all-region honors, and only the second to do so in his rookie season.
