Solimine Earns PGCBL All-League First Team Honors

The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League announced its yearly All-League teams earlier this week, and Mitchell College starting pitcher Ryan Solimine was among those honored as the best players for the 2019 season.

Solimine was one of four starting pitchers named to the PGCBL All-League First Team and was the only Division III pitcher to be recognized. Teams were selected by a vote of the league's head coaches, and were picked from nominations submitted by each team.

Solimine enjoyed a successful summer in the PGCBL, going 6-1 overall with a 2.95 ERA in 61.0 innings of work. During the regular season he led the league in complete games and ranked among the leaders in wins (t-3rd), ERA (4th) and innings (4th). He also walked the fewest batters (5) of any starter in the league.

Solimine and the Adirondack TrailBlazers made a Cinderella run in the PGCBL postseason. He took the ball in the team's first-ever PGCBL playoff game and allowed only one earned run over 8.0 innings, toppling No. 1 Utica by a 10-4 final in one of the biggest upsets in league history. The TrailBlazers then went on to claim the Western Division title with a sweep of No. 2 Geneva before falling to Amsterdam in the PGCBL Championship.  

The PGCBL is a 12-team summer collegiate baseball league in Upstate New York. Since its inaugural season in 2011, the PGCBL – which annually draws talent from some of the best NCAA, NAIA, and junior college programs – has quickly evolved into the premier wooden-bat league in the state of New York, while becoming one of the most widely respected summer leagues in the country.

In his debut season with the Mariners, Solimine posted a 9-2 record in 11 starts while striking out a team-high 70 batters over 71.0 innings. The New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Year and all-conference first team pick led the league in wins and innings pitched and ranked second in strikeouts and ERA (2.28). He also became the fifth Mitchell pitcher to earn ABCA all-region honors, and only the second to do so in his rookie season.
