Baseball Drops Opener to Otterbein

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Mitchell College baseball team opened the 2020 season with a 7-2 loss to Otterbein University on Saturday night at the Snowbird Classic.

The Mariners took a 2-0 lead in the third inning that was highlighted by an RBI single by Steve Cochrane and held the margin until the fifth. The Cardinals then hit up Mitchell starter Ryan Solimine for four runs and knocked him out of the game. Otterbein later tagged the bullpen for three runs and eight more hits over the next four innings to build the lead.

Mitchell finished the game with four hits as Otterbein's Ethan Doty and Cody Goletz combined to strike out 12 batters. Solomine struck out four and surrendered four runs on five hits in the loss. 

Mitchell (0-1 overall) returns to the field on Sunday, March 1 with a doubleheader against Misericordia University at 2 p.m.
