Baseball Drops Series Finale vs. Misericordia

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Mitchell College baseball team dropped the rubber match of its three-game set with Misericordia University on Monday by a 16-4 final at the Snowbird Classic.

The Cougars finished the game with 20 total hits, six of which went for extra bases. Sean Lyons led the charge with a 3-for-5 day at the plate that included a triple, homer and four RBI.

Jeremy Sagun led Mitchell with three hits while Anthony Diaz had two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Devyn McCarty also collected a pair of RBI on the day.

The Mariners got off to a promising start as a two-out double by Diaz plated a pair of runs in the first. The lead didn't last for long as Misericordia promptly tied the game the next inning. The Cougars then took the lead with seven runs in the fourth. All told, Misericordia scored 16 unanswered runs before Mitchell pushed across its final two runs in the eighth on a two-run single by McCarty.

Isaac Snyder picked up the win for the Cougars on the hill, allowing two runs on eight hits over 6.0 innings of work. Drew Daley was saddled with the loss. He lasted 3.1 innings and gave up five runs on seven hits in defeat.

Mitchell (1-3 overall) will next play Concordia College (MN) at the RussMatt Invitational on Wednesday, March 4 at 10 a.m.
