Falk Named NECC Player of the Week

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Matt Falk (Enfield, Conn.) was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of baseball, as announced by the league on Monday.

Falk continued what has been a red hot start to the season, hitting .429 with three home runs, 11 RBI, and nine runs scored to help lead the Mariners to a 5-0 record on the week. The senior's big week was highlighted by a 5-5 performance in a victory over conference rival New England College, a game in which he also drove in seven runs and scored four times. He reached base safely in four of the five games Mitchell played in during the week, tallied 20 total bases, and now leads the Mariners with six home runs and 33 RBI in 16 games to begin the season.

His 16 home runs and 33 RBI are both tops in the conference, while Falk also ranks in the top five in the NECC in runs scored, walks, on base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, extra base hits, and total bases.

Falk, a catcher, earned the honor for the first time this season. He is the second Mitchell player to nab the award this season, joining Dougie DelaCruz (March 20).

Mitchell (13-3 overall, 2-0 NECC) will next play at UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday, March 29 at 3:30 pm.
