Gibbs Tabbed as GNAC Pitcher of the Week
WINTHROP, Mass. – Senior Chris Gibbs (New Britain, Conn.) has been tabbed Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Pitcher of the Week for the sport of baseball, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
The hard throwing right-hander was dominant in his lone start for the Mariners on the week, tossing a complete game three-hitter in a win over conference victory over Rivier University. Gibbs scattered just three hits and one walk, striking out a career-high 14 batters, in the process becoming the all-time strikeout leader in the Division III era of the Mitchell baseball program, surpassing Al Jordan Johnson, who racked up 202 strikeouts between 2013-2016.
Of the three hits that Gibbs surrendered, two of them came in the top of the first inning, and after hitting a batter with one out in the top of the fifth, he went on to retire the final 14 batters he faced.
Entering the new week, Gibbs is tied for the conference lead with four wins, leads the conference with 49.2 innings pitched, is tied for second in strikeouts (52), and is seventh in ERA (3.26).
