MEN'S BASKETBALL TAKES LOSS FROM COAST GUARD ACADEMY

NEW LONDON, CT- Despite a 19 point effort from freshman guard Eric Murray (Bridgeport, CT/Bassick HS), Mitchell College dropped just their second game since the start of the new year 84-63 to the visiting Coast Guard Academy Thursday night at the Yarnall Athletic Center. 

The Pequots stayed within striking distance the first 10 minutes of the game before a 10-2 run by the Bears.  The second half opened with another 16-0 run by Coast Guard. The win raises the Bears' record to 10-6 so far this season. Mitchell currently stands at 6-8.

The Bears controlled the pace from buzzer to buzzer maintaining the lead throughout.  Junior guard Al Sowers (Monrovia, MD/St. John's School at Prospect Hall) led the Coast Guard with 21 points.  Junior forward Jeff Prebeck (Columbus, IN/NAPS) contributed to the win with a double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds.

Guard Kendall Lanham (SO., Bridgeport, CT/Bullard Havens Reg. Vo-Tec) finished the night with 15 points and five assists.  Sophomore forward Henry Reyes (Bridgeport, CT/Strattford HS), new comer to the Pequots this semester, came off the bench with a season high 10 points. 

Mitchell will return to the hardwood on Monday, January 22 to continue their home stand against Lehman (NY) College for a 7:00 PM tip-off.  The Bears will head to Wheaton College for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference match up on Saturday, January 20th at 2:00 PM.
