MURRAY EARNS AD3I ROOKIE OF THE YEAR


NEW LONDON, CT--Mitchell College freshman guard Eric Murray (Bridgeport, CT) was named Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year for the 2006-2007 season and also to the All-Independent Third Team.   Murray is a Business Administration major. 

Murray scored 425 points in his first season as a Pequot, averaging 15.7 points per game.  In Mitchell's 86-81 win over Albertus Magnus, Murray racked up a season high 28 points, hitting four of ten attempts from behind the three-point arc. 

Mitchell finished their regular season at 11-14 with 4 wins over fellow AD3I members.  They finished fourth in the AD3I Northeast Regional Tournament at the College of Saint Joseph in Standish, ME. 

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 25 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2006-07.  The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.  The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports.  In addition, it also will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of 10 other sports this year.
