MEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS GAME TO FUTURE NECC FOE NEWBURY

For the second time this season, the Newbury College Nighthawks defeated the Pequots of Mitchell College, 84-72.  The first time the two teams met this year, at Mitchell, the Nighthawks edged out a 72-70 victory.

It was Newbury's seniors that lead the team to their 12 point victory over the Pequots.  Ivan DaSilva (New Bedford, MA/West Bridgewater) had an impressive 8 assists, 4 steals, and 3 blocks to go along with 10 rebounds.  Arch Mitchell (Framingham, MA/Framingham) and Steven Morris (Somerville, MA/Somerville) combined for 39 points for the Nighthawks, with Morris also dishing out 7 assists.

The Nighthawks lead the entire game, including a 46-33 advantage at half time.  Though a notable effort was made by Mitchell's Eric Murray (Bridgeport, CT/ Bassick) and Michael DePaolo (Asbury, NJ/North Hunterdon), the closest the Pequots came to catching the Nighthawks was at the 6:30 mark in the second half when they trailed by 9 points.  Murray finished the game with 26 points and 12 boards, while DePaolo contributed 22 points and 7 rebounds.

Newbury's seniors, Mitchell, DaSilva, and Morris, were also honored today as they competed for the last time on their home court.  Currently, the Nighthawks are 16-7, with two games left to play in the regular season before they head to the Independent Tournament on February 23rd and 24th.  Newbury's next game will be at Elms College, on Tuesday, February 19th, at 8:00 p.m.
