MURRAY REACHES 1000 POINT MARK IN LOSS TO ALBERTUS MAGNUS

NEW LONDON, CT--The Mitchell College Pequots hosted their final regular season contest Thursday night against Albertus Magnus College in front of a packed house at the Yarnall Athletic Center.  The Falcons captured the win 80-64.

Fans eagerly counted down the ten points Mitchell sophomore Eric Murray (Bridgeport, CT) needed to reach the 1000 career point mark.  Aggressive out of the gate, Murray flew through the lane for Mitchell's first bucket but was called for a charge, the basket would not count.  With 1:40 left in the first half Murray hit a jumper just inside the arc for the golden basket.  This was only Murray's 52nd collegiate game. He will go down the record books as Mitchell's first four-year player to accomplish this feat.

Leading the way for the Falcons was junior forward Bobby Leonzo (East Haven, CT) finishing with a  double-double at 22 points and 13 rebounds. Leonzo sunk five shots from behind the arc.  Freshman guard Walden St. Juste (Hartford, CT) added 15 points for the overall win. Junior forward Adam Hovan (Ansonia, CT) contributed 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds.  Leonzo leaves New London just six points away from his own 1000th career point.

Top scorer for the Pequots was Murray putting up 19 points. Sophomore guard Mike DePaolo (Asbury, NJ) finished with 13 points. Junior guard Joshua Witt (West Redding, CT) added 10 points for the Pequots.

Mitchell College finishes the regular season sitting at 3-22. The young team will not graduate any from this year's squad.  The Falcons will travel to Suffolk University to play their final regular season contest on Saturday, February 23 at 2:00 PM in Boston. Albertus Magnus leaves New London with a record of 4-20.
