NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College men's basketball team cruised to an 86-67 victory against Mitchell College in a cross-town matchup between New London schools played at Luce Fieldhouse Monday night.

The Camels (7-8 overall) shot a scorching 57 percent from three-point range (12-for-21) and 62 percent from the field (29-for-47), outrebounding the Mariners (2-10 overall) 34-23 in the triumph. Brian Mahoney poured in 13 of his team-high 16 points in the second half, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from long distance and 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. Dean Lampe contributed 13 points, six rebounds and four assists on 5-for-8 shooting from the field. Chris Kehoe added 11 points and four rebounds, connecting on all five of his field goal attempts for the Camels.

Senior Eric Murray paced the visitors with 16 points and five rebounds while classmate Mike DePaolo had 12 points and three steals for the Mariners. Sophomore John Patterson added 10 points and shot 5-of-7 from the field.

The Camels put together a 9-2 run midway through the opening half to take a 25-15 lead. McGuinness knocked down a pair of jumpers during the stretch, including a 17-footer to close out the rally with 8:54 remaining.

Later on in the half, the Camels frustrated the Mariners with a 14-5 run. Bernier drove the baseline for a hoop with 3:31 to go. On the ensuing Mariners possession, Bernier got his hands in a passing lane and went from one end to the other, burying a three from the top of the key in transition. The Camels continued to carry the hot-hand in the second stanza. With 17:25 remaining, Lampe knocked down a trey to make it a 51-32 score. However, Drew Norris reduced the deficit to 59-48 with 9:57 remaining, knocking down a three-point field goal for a resilient Mitchell squad. But Mahoney ignited the Camels on a lethal 8-0 scoring surge late in the half that put the game out of reach, burying a three with 6:11 to go that staked the Camels to their largest lead, a 71-51 advantage.
