MBB's Thomas Named NECC Rookie of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Chris Thomas was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of men's basketball, as announced by the conference on Monday morning.

Thomas, who averaged 11.5 points and 8.0 rebounds over two games last week, earned the honor for the first time this season. He made his first career start in an 81-69 loss to Wheelock College but recorded his first-ever double-double with career highs of 14 points and 11 rebounds. He also scored nine points and pulled down five rebounds in 11 minutes against Southern Vermont College on January 13. Thomas shot 58 percent (7-of-12) from the field and 75 percent (9-of-12) from the free throw line for the week.

A forward/center for the Mariners, Thomas has played in nine games and averaged 5.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest this season. He is shooting 50 percent from the floor and is also tied for the team lead with six blocked shots.

Mitchell (1-13 overall, 0-5 NECC) returns to action at Elms College on Thursday, January 20 at 6 p.m.
