MBB's Quinn Tabbed NECC Rookie of the Year

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Tim Quinn earned one of the New England Collegiate Conference's top honors on Monday, as he was named the 2011 NECC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year.

Voting for the award was conducted among all NECC men's basketball head coaches. It marked the first time in the three-year history of the conference that a Mitchell men's player had been recognized with one of the NECC's top individual awards.

Quinn, a three-time NECC Rookie of the Week selection during the regular season, played in 21 games while making 16 starts in his first year with the Mariners. He led the team in scoring at 10.5 points per contest and scored in double figures in 11 games.

"Tim is very deserving of this award," said head coach Todd Peretz. "As his coach, I had the pleasure each day to witness an outstanding work ethic coupled with a high basketball IQ, and it's nice to know that the conference coaches recognized it as well."

In 12 conference games Quinn averaged a team-high 12.0 points per game while shooting 40 percent from the field. Both of his 20-point games came against conference opponents, including a season-high 21 points against league leader Becker College on January 8.

Mitchell finished the 2010-11 season with an overall record of 1-22 and 0-14 in NECC play.
