MBB's Ford Repeats as NECC ROW


ATTLEBORO, Mass. – For the second straight week and the fourth time this season, Mitchell College sophomore Joshua Ford was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Week for the sport of men's basketball, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

Ford averaged team highs of 17.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game last week while shooting 48 percent from the floor and 60 percent from three-point range. He recorded 20 points, seven rebounds and four steals against Lesley University and followed that performance with a 15-point, 11-rebound effort in the season finale against Becker College.

Ford played in 23 games this season and made 19 starts. He led the Mariners in scoring (14.7 ppg), rebounding (11.7 rpg), steals (52) and blocks (26) and shot 49 percent from the field. He led the NECC in rebounding and also finished among the league leaders in steals (4th), assists (T-6th), points (8th), blocks (T-9th) and field goal percentage (10th).

Ford is the only men's player in the conference to earn rookie of the week status more than twice this season. In addition to the last two weeks, he also garnered honors on January 9 and 16.

Mitchell ended the 2011-12 season with an overall record of 5-18 and finished 3-13 in NECC play.
