MBB Comes Up Short at Western Connecticut

DANBURY, Conn. - Six Western Connecticut State University men's basketball players scored in double figures in a 106-100 victory over Mitchell College on the second day of play at the Maron Hotel & Suites Classic at Feldman Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Jeremiah Washington led Western with 22 points while Luis Bridtter, Tony Seldon, Ronnie Underwood and Jengodgi Gates each added a dozen points to the Colonials' season-high point total. Kendall Marquez added 11 points for the winners.

The Colonials, now 4-1, outdueled the Mariners in the fast-paced affair and converted 38 of 49 free throws, including 31 attemps in the second half.

Western took a 55-49 advantage into the locker room at intermission and was able to keep pace with Mitchell in the second half despite senior forward Joshua Ford's game-high 30 points.

The Colonials built a 12-point lead in the second half following a lay-up by Ike Osafo that made it 71-59 with 15:06 remaining in the game.

Mitchell (2-3 overall) pecked away at the deficit and scored 19 of the game's next 26 points to draw even, 78-78, with 8:52 left. That was the seventh and final deadlock of the contest.

Sophomore Frank Martin made his first start of the year and contributed a season-high 25 points in only 26 minutes. Junior Hector Aleman and senior Alex Del Rio also finished in double digits with 12 and 10 points, respectively, while Ford pulled down 12 boards for his fifth double-double of the season.

Mitchell will next host Newbury College on Tuesday, December 3 at 6 p.m.
