MBB Earns #2 Seed for NECC Championship

ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- The Mitchell College men's basketball team will be the second seed for the upcoming New England Collegiate Conference Championship and has earned a bye for the first round.

Elms College and Mitchell each finished the regular season tied atop the standings with a 12-4 mark. Using predetermined tiebreakers, Elms will be the top seed and will host the semifinals and finals begining Friday, February 28. Both the Blazers (14-11 overall, 12-4 NECC) and Mitchell (17-7, 12-4 NECC) earned first-round byes.

Becker College earned the third seed, finishing the season 14-11 overall and 10-6 NECC. The Hawks will host sixth-seeded Daniel Webster College (8-17, 7-9 NECC) in a first round match-up on Tuesday, February 25. The winner will meet second-seeded Mitchell in a semifinal contest on Friday.

Due to the use of an ineligible player during the first semester, Daniel Webster vacated two conference wins (against Regis and Wheelock) and received two loses. Regis College and Wheelock College both vacated a loss.

Fifth-seeded Regis (10-13, 9-6 NECC) will travel to fourth-seeded Southern Vermont College (16-9, 10-6 NECC). The winner will play top-seeded Elms in a semifinal contest on Friday.

The top six teams qualify for the NECC Championship. Predetermined tiebreaking procedures were used to seed teams with identical conference winning percentages.

First round games will be played on Tuesday, February 25 at the higher seed. Winners will advance to the semifinals on Friday, February 28 at Elms College. Semifinal winners will meet Saturday, March 1 at Elms.

Game times and dates are subject to change.
