Ford Nabs NECC Weekly Honors for Fifth Time


ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Joshua Ford was named the New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for men's basketball, as announced by the conference on Monday morning.

Ford helped lead Mitchell to a share of first place in the NECC standings by posting team highs in scoring (22.5 ppg), rebounding (11.0 rpg) and assists (5.0 apg) last week while recording a pair of double-doubles. He scored 17 points and added 10 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and a steal in a loss at Elms College. He then netted a game-high 28 points and finished with 12 rebounds and six assists in a win over Regis College in the final game of the regular season.

Ford shot 58 percent from the floor for the week and increased his double-double total to 22, the most in the NCAA for any division. He finished the regular season as the NECC leader in scoring (22.6 ppg) and rebounding (12.5 rpg) and also ranked fourth in blocks (1.1 bpg) and sixth in assists (3.4 apg).

Ford earned NECC weekly honors for the fifth time this season, the most ever by a player in a single season in the conference's six-year history. He has been named player of the week by the conference nine times over the past two seasons.

Mitchell (17-7 overall, 12-4 NECC) earned a bye for the first round of the 2014 NECC Championship and will face either No. 6 Daniel Webster College or No. 3 Becker College in the semifinals on Friday, February 28 at 8 p.m. The semifinals and title game (March 1) will be hosted by Elms College in Chicopee, Mass.
