Ford Named to D3hoops.com All-Northeast Second Team

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College men's basketball player Joshua Ford was named to the D3hoops.com 2014 All-Northeast Region second team, as announced by the web site on Monday morning.

The senior forward was one of 20 players in the region honored by the site. He was also one of five repeat selections, as he was named to the fourth team a year ago.

Players were nominated by sports information directors at various schools, and a total of 689 players were nominated nationwide. Regional voting was then conducted among SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.

Ford, the New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Year, led the NECC in scoring, rebounding and double-doubles and also ranked among the top 10 in field goal percentage (3rd), assists (7th), blocks (T-7th) and free throw percentage (9th). He averaged 21.9 points and 12.5 rebounds in league play and posted a double-double in 14 of 16 NECC contests.

Ford finished the season with 25 double-doubles in 27 games to lead all of Division III in the category. He also ranked sixth in the country in rebounding (12.5 rpg) and 10th in scoring (22.5 ppg). Ford averaged 23.0 points and 11.5 rebounds during the NECC Championship and was named most valuable player of the tournament.

Ford led Mitchell to its best Division III season in the history of the college. The Mariners went 19-8 overall and 12-4 in league play en route to their first-ever conference title. Mitchell also earned the NECC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and made their postseason debut at ninth-ranked Williams College on March 7, falling 81-66 to a squad that has advanced to DIII Final Four.
