Men's Basketball Earns Fifth Seed for 2015 NECC Championship


ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Mitchell College has earned the fifth seed in the 2015 New England Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Championship, which begins with first round play on Tuesday, February 24.

The Mariners (12-12 overall, 9-7 NECC) will play at fourth-seeded Becker College (15-10 overall, 10-6 NECC) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the semifinals to take on top-seeded Southern Vermont College (22-3 overall, 16-0 NECC) on February 27.

Mitchell and Becker split a pair of regular season contests. The Mariners won the initial meeting in on January 29 at home, triumphing by a final score of 86-83 in double overtime. The Hawks were the winners this past weekend in the regular season finale, pulling out a 93-86 victory that clinched the fourth seed and a home game in the tournament.

The other first round game features sixth-seeded Daniel Webster College (10-15 overall, 7-9 NECC) at third-seeded Elms College (11-13 overall, 10-6 NECC). The winner of that game will play second-seeded Regis College (17-8 overall, 12-4 NECC) in the semifinals at Southern Vermont. 

The title game will be held on Saturday, February 28 at Southern Vermont. The winner will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
