Maynard Repeats as NECC Rookie of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Josh Maynard was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of men's basketball, as announced by the league on Monday. 

Maynard averaged 6.7 points off the bench last week as the Mariners went 2-1 to close out the regular season. He hit three treys against Daniel Webster College and finished with nine points in the victory, and he canned two more threes for six points in the win over Newbury College. He added five points and another three-pointer at Becker College, and for the week he shot 46 percent from three-point range.

Maynard, who earned the award for the second straight week, has played in 14 games and made one start this season. He is averaging 4.2 points per game and is shooting a team-best 44 percent from beyond the arc.

Mitchell has earned the fifth seed for the 2015 NECC Men's Basketball Championship and will play at fourth-seeded Becker College on Tuesday, February 24 at 7 p.m. The winner moves on to the semifinals and will face top-seeded Southern Vermont College on February 27.
