Santiago Named NECC Rookie of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Domenico Santiago was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of men's basketball, as announced by the league on Monday.

Santiago averaged 20.5 points and 11.5 rebounds last week and shot 67 percent from the floor. Against Western Connecticut State University he finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. He then added 19 points, nine boards and two steals in a league contest at Southern Vermont.

Santiago, who received rookie honors for the second time this season (Nov. 23), is averaging 15.8 points and a team-high 9.6 rebounds through eight games this season. He currently leads the NECC in offensive rebound (37) and ranks second in rebounds per game, sixth in field goal percentage (.578) and 10th in points per game.

Mitchell (1-7 overall, 0-2 NECC) will next host Daniel Webster College on Tuesday, January 12 at 2 p.m.
