Santiago Earns Third Straight NECC Nod

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Domenico Santiago was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of men's basketball, as announced by the league on Monday.

Santiago received the honor for the third straight week and the fourth time this season. He is the only rookie in the conference to earn ROW status more than twice.

Santiago averaged 20.0 points and 14.5 rebounds per game last week as Mitchell split a pair of NECC contests. He finished with a team-high 23 points on 11-for-13 shooting and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds in a win over Regis College. He then finished with 17 points and a game-high 15 boards at Wheelock College. For the week he shot 18-for-24 (75 percent) from the floor and went 4-for-5 (80 percent) from the free throw line.

Through 13 games this season Santiago is averaging 15.4 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest. In league play he leads the NECC in rebounding (10.6 rpg) and ranks second in field goal percentage (.667).

Mitchell (4-9 overall, 3-4 NECC) will next host Newbury College on Tuesday, January 26 at 6 p.m.
