Men's Basketball Battles Back to Top Conn College


NEW LONDON, Conn.—Donavan McClean erupted for 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Mitchell College men's basketball team to a 105-89 victory at Connecticut College Thursday night.

The Mariners improved to 6-9 with the win while the Camels fell to 12-7 with the setback. It marked the third straight year that Mitchell has won the meeting between the New London neighbors.

McClean was 9-for-15 from the field and 3-of-4 from long distance. Seniors Frank Martin and Parris Hill chipped in with 21 points each for the Mariners. Martin had six rebounds and four assists and was 4-for-7 from long distance. Hill added nine boards for the visitors.

Domenico Santiago contributed with 18 points and eight boards, shooting 8-for-12 from the field. Alan Morgan added 15 points and nine assists in the win for Mitchell.

Connecticut College sophomore Isaiah Robinson and freshman Tyler Rowe finished with 16 points each in the setback. Robinson added six boards for the Camels, connecting on 7-of-13 shots from the field while Rowe added three assists in the loss. Junior Daniel Janel contributed 14 points and eight rebounds in the contest, shooting 7-for-11 from the field.

David Labossiere reached double figures with 10 points, five rebounds and six assists for Connecticut College.

The Camels led by as many as 17 in the first half and enjoyed a 52-41 lead at the break. Mitchell stormed back in the second half, knocking down 6-of-8 shots from beyond the arc.

McClean dialed up a three-ball with 7:07 remaining to vault the visitors out to an 84-79 advantage. Robinson trimmed the deficit to 89-85 when he tipped one in with 5:09 to play. But Mitchell answered back with a 6-0 run to extend its advantage to 95-85. Labossiere pulled the hosts to within 96-89 with 1:25 remaining but Mitchell closed out the game on the foul line to come away with the 105-89 win.
