Hill, Santiago Earn NECC Men's Basketball Honors

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Two members of the Mitchell College men's basketball team were recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday.

Senior Parris Hill was named NECC Player of the Week while freshman Domenico Santiago was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. The duo helped the Mariners go 3-0 last week while picking up a pair of wins in league play.

Hill earned POW honors for the second time this season and seventh time in his career. Santiago nabbed his fourth straight ROW honor and fifth of the season, the most of any conference newcomer.

Hill averaged 30.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game last week and recorded 30-point performances in conference wins over Newbury College and Elms College. He scored a season-high 37 points on 15-for-20 shooting against the Nighthawks and added eight rebounds and five assists. He then poured in 32 points to go along with 10 rebounds in an overtime win against the Blazers in which he played every minute.

Hill rounded out the week with 21 points and nine boards in a non-conference victory over crosstown rival Connecticut College, giving the Mariners their third straight win in the series. He played all but one minute last week and shot 60 percent from the floor and 82 percent from the free throw line.

Santiago averaged 19.7 points and 12.0 rebounds per game in three starts last week. He finished with 23 points on 11-for-12 shooting and grabbed a season-high 20 rebounds in the overtime win against Elms. The 20 rebounds ranked as the third-highest single game total in Mitchell's Division III history, as well as the most by a freshman.

Santiago also recorded 18 points and eight rebounds in wins over Newbury and Connecticut College. He shot a remarkable 80 percent (28-for-35) from the floor for the week and averaged 32.7 minutes per contest.

Mitchell (7-9 overall, 5-4 NECC), which has won six of its last seven games, will next play at Regis College on Thursday, February 4 at 8 p.m.
