MBB Bounces Back Against Newbury


BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's basketball team got back on the winning track at Newbury College on Thursday night, posting an 89-69 victory in New England Collegiate Conference action.

Donavan McClean registered a double-double with a game-high 30 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Mariners. Mitchell improved to 9-13 overall and 7-8 in league play.

Mitchell came out of the gate red hot, jumping out in front 10-2 before Newbury could answer. Coming out of a timeout, Jeduan Langston ignited a three-minute, 8-0 run to tie up the contest at 10. However, the Mariners pulled out in front once more with a 10-1 stretch to take a 20-11 lead midway through the first half.

The Nighthawks fought their way back. Seconds after entering the game late in the half, Jake Pringle made it two-possession game with a layup, pulling the Nighthawks to within five at 31-26 with two minutes to go. Although Langston scored six points in the last minute, the Mariners still led by seven at 39-32 at the break.

In the second half, the Mariners extended their lead to 12 after opening the period with a 7-2 run. The Nighthawks pulled back to within eight points over the next five minutes but were unable to get any closer. McClean paced the Mitchell offense with 18 points in the second half to notch his team-leading fourth 30-point performance of the season.

Parris Hill finished with 24 points while Domenico Santiago rounded out the Mariners in double figures with 19 points. Alan Morgan paced the Mitchell offense by handing out eight assists.

Langston led the Nighthawks with 19 points and 11 rebounds off the bench while Ceejae Carter followed up with 16 points. Dallas Serrano also finished in double figures with 12 points while dishing out a team-high three assists.

Mitchell will close out the regular season with a home game againt Becker College on Saturday, February 20 at 3 p.m. Prior to the game the Mariners will honor three seniors in a special ceremony.
