MBB Earns Sixth Seed for 2016 NECC Championship


ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College will be the sixth seed in the 2016 New England Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Championship and will travel to third-seeded Becker College for a first round contest on Tuesday, February 23 at 7 p.m.

Becker finished tied for second place in the league standings with a conference record of 12-4. Mitchell finished sixth in the NECC and went 7-9 in league play. The Hawks and Mariners will meet for the fourth straight year in the tournament.

Southern Vermont College finished with a perfect NECC record of 16-0 to claim the regular season title and the top seed. The Mountaineers, along with second-seeded Elms College, both receive first-round byes into the semifinals.

Fourth-seeded Daniel Webster College will play host to defending champion Regis College in Tuesday's other first round contest. The fifth-seeded Pride will be looking to become the first back-to-back champions since Elms accomplished the feat in 2011.

The winners of the first round games will advance to the semifinals on Friday, February 26 at Southern Vermont. The championship game is set for Saturday, February 27 at 5:00 p.m.

Game 1: #5 Regis College at #4 Daniel Webster College – 7:00 p.m.
Game 2: #6 Mitchell College at #3 Becker College – 7:00 p.m.
 
Semifinals – Friday, February 26 (hosted by Southern Vermont College)
Game 3: Game 1 winner at #1 Southern Vermont College – 6:00 p.m.
Game 4: Game 2 winner vs. #2 Elms College – 8:00 p.m.
 
Championship – Saturday, February 27 (hosted by Southern Vermont College)
Game 5: Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 winner – 5:00 p.m.
