Four From MBB Honored by NECC

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Four members of the Mitchell College men's basketball team received recognition on Monday afternoon as the New England Collegiate Conference released its annual postseason awards.

Seniors Parris Hill and Donavan McClean garnered all-conference honors while freshman Domenico Santiago was selected as NECC Rookie of the Year. Hill earned a spot on the first team while McClean was named to the second team. Sophomore Brayvon Young was also named to the NECC All-Sportsmanship Team. All awards were determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches.

Hill was a repeat first-team selection and earned all-conference distinction for the third time in his career. He started and played in 18 games and ranked second in the NECC in scoring at 24.2 points per game. He also ranked second in the league in field goal percentage (.582) and eighth in rebounding (7.3 rpg).

McClean started all 24 games and ranked third in the conference in scoring at 19.8 points per game. An all-conference honorable mention pick a year ago, he led the Mariners in scoring in nine games and netted 30 or more points in four contests. He also grabbed a career-high 6.5 rebounds per game and shot 45 percent from the floor.

Santiago becomes the fourth Mitchell player to earn top rookie honors and the first since 2013. He led the NECC in field goal percentage (.614) and ranked second in rebounding (9.4 rpg) while averaging 14.0 points per game. A five-time NECC Rookie of the Week selection, he started 23 of 24 games and posted a team-high eight double-doubles on the season.

In his second year with the Mariners, Young saw action in every game and averaged 5.5 points per contest. He ranked second on the team with 36 three-point field goals and shot just under 40 percent from beyond the arc.

Mitchell (9-15 overall) went 7-9 in league play and earned a berth in the 2016 NECC Championship, falling to Becker College in the first round by an 88-78 final.
