Members of the Mitchell College men's basketball team recently spent a morning volunteering at the 40th Annual Jack O'Keefe Memorial Strides Road Race.

The event, held on October 1 and organized by The Cactus Jack Foundation and The Arc New London County, raised money to support local programs and services for people with disabilities. The Mariners spent the morning directing runners on the course, distributing water and refreshments and cleaning up after the event.

The Jack O'Keefe Memorial Strides Road Race is one of the oldest road races in Southeastern Connecticut. In the late 1970s this race was often referred to as "A Happening" because of the large number of runners, families and colorful characters, many in Halloween costumes, who came together for the event. The event included a 10k race, a 5k race and a family fun run.
