MBB Falls to Wesleyan in Herb Kenny Title Game

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The Mitchell College men's basketball team suffered a 107-64 setback to Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the Herb Kenny Tip-Off Tournament.

The Cardinals shot 53 percent as a team and had six players score in double figures. Nathan Krill posted game highs of 22 points and 16 rebounds to pace Wesleyan, which improved to 2-0 on the season. Krill was named most valuable player of the tournament.

Domenico Santiago and Steffen Brunson paced the Mariners with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Each earned a spot on the all-tournament team, which also included Wesleyan's Kevin O'Brien, Anna Maria's Mike Rapoza and Salve Regina's Kevin Kelly. 

Mitchell got off to a rough start, falling behind 5-0 in the first two minutes while starting forward Hasani Williams picked up a pair of fouls. The Mariners never really recovered, and the deficit soon grew to double digits. Krill netted 14 points in the stanza as Wesleyan took a 58-30 advantage into the locker room at the break.

Santiago scored 10 points in the second half to lead the Mariners, but the visitors failed to make up any ground. Wesleyan finished with a 51-27 advantage on the glass and forced 24 turnovers.

Mitchell (1-1 overall) will next play at Sacred Heart University on Wednesday, November 22 at 1 p.m.
