NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's basketball team dropped a 105-87 final at Coast Guard Academy in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Coast Guard had six players score in double figures led by Bryce Schroeder, who netted a career-high 20 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists. Justin Kane notched his fourth double-double in his last five games with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Noah Baldez (16), Micah Baldez (17), Sean Gratock (14) and J.T. Cox (12) also scored in double figures for the Bears, who improved to 6-1 overall.

Leading Mitchell (3-6 overall) was Hasani Williams with 20 points and five rebounds. Alan Morgan was 4-for-6 from three-point land and finished with 18 points. Mack Bertram-Gregory had 14 points and eight rebounds while Colizel Lewis added 10 points.

The Bears jumped out to an early eight-point lead as Micah Baldez knocked down a jumper off a pass from Graytock to make the score 13-5 with 16:17 left in the first.

With 4:41 left to play in the opening period, Coast Guard stretched its lead to 20 points with a 10-0 run. Schroeder capped the spurt by going coast-to-coast after grabbing a defensive board, laying it in to go up 55-35 with 2:58 left in the half. The Bears entered the second half with a 17-point lead and kept the margin at double digits for the rest of the game.

It was a hot-shooting night for the Bears as they were a season-high 55 percent (43-for-78) from the floor and went 4-for-12 from beyond the arc. Mitchell shot 34-for-76 (44 percent) from the field and 43 percent (12-for-28) from three. The Mariners have shot over 40 percent from long range in their last five games.

Mitchell will wrap up the semester with a trip to Florida for a pair of games. The Mariners will next play at St. Thomas University on Tuesday, December 19 at 7 p.m.
