Santiago Earns Third NECC Weekly Nod This Season

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College junior Domenico Santiago was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of men's basketball, as announced by the league on Monday morning.

Santiago averaged 24.5 points, 15.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game last week as the Mariners split games in league play. He started the week by pouring in a career-high 34 points on 16-for-19 shooting in a win over Wheelock. He was a perfect 10-for-10 from the floor in the first half and finished with 13 rebounds and three assists. He then grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds to go with 15 points in a loss at Southern Vermont, bringing his double-double total to 13 on the season.

Santiago earns player of the week honors for the third time this season (January 15, 29). The 6-5 center has started and played in 22 games this year and leads the Mariners in both scoring (18.8 ppg) and rebounding (10.9 rpg). He also currently ranks second in the nation in field goal percentage (.727).

Mitchell (12-11 overall, 8-4 NECC) will next host Lesley University on Wednesday, February 14 at 7 p.m.
