Santiago Tabbed NECC Player of the Week

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Domenico Santiago was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of men's basketball, as announced by the league on Monday morning.

Santiago averaged team highs of 20.0 points and 14.5 rebounds per game last week as Mitchell opened the season with a pair of games at the Lafrance Hospitality Tournament. Despite battling foul trouble, he notched a double-double of 19 points and a game-high 13 rebounds in a win over Lehman College in the opening round. In the championship game against UMass Dartmouth he added 21 points and a game-high 16 boards and landed a spot on the all-tournament team. He shot 62 percent for the weekend and also recorded four assists, three steals and a block.

Santiago earns player of the week honors for the first time this season and fourth time in his career. The 6-5 center is coming off a season in which he earned all-conference first team status and led the league in rebounding.

Mitchell (1-1 overall) will next play at Albertus Magnus College on Sunday, November 25 at 3 p.m.
