Brunson Named NECC Player of the Week

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Steffen Brunson was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of men's basketball, as announced by the league on Monday morning.

Brunson averaged a team-high 19.0 points per contest over a three-game stretch for the Mariners, who went 2-1 and picked up a league win in the process. He dropped in a career-high 26 points and added six rebounds in a road victory at Newbury, sinking a pair of free throws with seven seconds to go to put Mitchell on top for good. In a win over Johnson & Wales (FL) he netted 11 points and tacked on six rebounds and three assists, and against Keiser he finished with 20 points, nine assists and six rebounds.

Brunson earns player of the week honors for the first time in his career. The 6-2 guard is averaging 16.2 points and a team-high 5.0 assists per game through 11 contests this season. He has scored in double digits in all but one game, and he currently ranks among the NECC leaders in scoring (10th) and assists (2nd).

Mitchell (7-4 overall,2-1 NECC) will next play at Becker College on Tuesday, January 8 at 6 p.m.
