MBB Falls in Shootout with Albertus Magnus

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's basketball team dropped a 112-99 shootout to Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday night in non-conference action at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

Terry Dawkins led all scorers with 23 points and was one of five Albertus Magnus players who finished in double figures. Andrew Rice added a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three steals and three assists, and Marquan Watson tacked on 15 points and six boards. Davon Warner and Jahmerikah Green-Younger rounded out the scoring with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Matt Finke paced Mitchell with a season-high 21 points on 8-for-14 shooting. Hasani Williams and Jacob Tully contributed 10 points apiece, with the former also grabbing a team-high seven caroms. 

The Falcons got off to a hot start and never trailed in the contest. Green-Younger made a pair of shots in the opening minute, jump starting the Albertus offense early en route to a 23-6 lead after just six minutes. 

Green-Younger finished with all 10 of his points in the opening half as the Falcons shot 71 percent from the floor and led 69-49 at the break. Rice netted 16 points in the stanza while Dawkins added 15. Mitchell, which shot 42 percent as a team, got 11 points from Finke and 10 from Tully.

Albertus led by as many as 33 in the second half but saw the lead shrink over the final 4:30. Mitchell scored 23 of the game's final 26 points to cut the deficit to 13 by the final buzzer. Finke led the charge with 10 points in the half while Samuel Jackson had nine and Hunter Baillargeon added eight.

Mitchell (1-5 overall) will next play at Johnson & Wales University on Saturday, December 7 at 3 p.m. Albertus Magnus (6-1 overall) returns to action at home against George Fox University on Friday, December 6 at 5 p.m.
