MBB Drops First Game of Florida Swing

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Mitchell College men's basketball team opened a three-game Florida trip with a 93-59 loss at St. Thomas University on Tuesday afternoon at the Fernandez Family Center.

Hasani Williams led Mitchell with a game-high 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting. Justin Brown paced five Bobcats in double figures with 20 points.

St. Thomas (6-2 overall) led 21-14 less than seven minutes into the contest but used an 11-2 spurt to open up a double-digit lead. The Bobcats pushed the margin to as many as 23 in the half before settling in with a 46-26 advantage at the break. Quinterious Jones netted 14 of his 16 points in the stanza to lead all scorers at intermission.

The Mariners continued to lose ground in the second half but utilized their deep bench to spread minutes around. All 18 players who made the trip saw action, helping to keep legs fresh for upcoming games. Mitchell will play three games in a 55-hour window while in Florida.

Both teams shot a similar percentage from the floor, but 22 Mitchell turnovers and 20 St. Thomas offensive rebounds led to 29 more shot attempts for the home team. The Bobcats also went 14-for-37 from long range while the Mariners' lone three came from Samuel Jackson.

Mitchell (2-8 overall) will next play at Florida National University on Wednesday, December 18 at 7 p.m.
