MBB Falls to WPI In Herb Kenny Opener

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The Mitchell College men's basketball team suffered a 103-61 setback against WPI on Saturday night in the opening round of the 2021 Herb Kenny Tournament at Wesleyan University.

The Engineers, who received votes in the D3hoops.com preseason top 25 poll, shot 57 percent for the game and improved to 4-0 on the season. John Adams led the way with a double-double of 27 points and 14 rebounds, one of three WPI players who scored in double figures.

Mitchell was paced by Mikey Buscetto's 16 points and four assists. Jacob Tully and Jalen Benson added nine points apiece.

WPI opened the game with seven straight points and never trailed. The Engineers quickly built a double-digit margin and sailed into intermission with a 55-33 lead.

WPI's offense kept rolling in the second half and ended the game with 16 unanswered points. The Engineers outscored the Mariners 68-22 in the paint and held a commanding 50-22 edge on the glass.  

Mitchell (2-3 overall) will face Pratt in Sunday's consolation game. Tip-off is slated for 12:30 p.m.
