MBB Bounces Back to Knock off Pratt

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The Mitchell College men's basketball team came away with a 90-75 victory over Pratt Institute on Sunday afternoon in the consolation game of the 2021 Herb Kenny Tournament at Wesleyan University.

Mikey Buscetto, who was named to the all-tournament team, scored a game- and career-high 28 points and added seven assists, six rebounds and three steals to pace the Mariners. Alfonzo Stokes finished with 15 points and eight boards while Jalen Benson tacked on nine points and a game-high nine assists.

Patrick Gorman led Pratt (1-5 overall) with 22 points while Cameron Hatcher (21 points, 10 rebounds) and Daniel Golub (14 points, 15 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles.

Neither team built a significant lead in the first half until Mitchell took control in the final 90 seconds of the period. The Mariners used an 11-2 spurt to take a 44-34 lead into the locker room at intermission. Buscetto hit back-to-back threes to cap the run, which also featured a lay-up from Benson and a trey from Hunter Baillargeon.

Mitchell carried the momentum into the second half and didn't let Pratt back in the game. The Mariners never let the lead dip below seven and led by as many as 19 in the late stages of the contest.

Buscetto scored 14 points in each half and finished with six of Mitchell's 10 three-pointers. Stokes netted nine of his 15 points in the second half.

Mitchell (3-3 overall) will next play at SUNY Maritime on Sunday, November 28 at 1 p.m.
